3 Ways to Stay Safe in Crowded Public Places

By August 13, 2016Safety tips

Whether your family is headed to the amusement park for a fun filled day, a shopping mall, or simply attending a popular local event in your community, it’s important to ensure your child’s safety. You can let your kids explore while you’re out and about, and still maintain peace of mind. Here are some helpful ways to stay safe in crowded public places:

Dress in bright colors and take note of clothing

When going to a busy place with large crowds like an amusement park, dress kids in brightly colored clothing. It’s helpful to have the whole family wear shirts of the same color, but if you prefer not to match, then just choose something bright that will stand out. Make a mental note of what your child is wearing, including footwear, and if they’re carrying a backpack or other type of bag. You’ll have an easier time spotting them in crowded areas when you know exactly what to look for.

Make sure phones are charged and ringer volume is up

Before leaving home, make sure that everyone’s cell phone batteries are fully charged. Have kids check the ringer volume to ensure that they’ll hear it ring if you call them. Even if your child doesn’t have their own cell phone for personal use, it’s a good idea to have a phone that they can use to stay in contact while they’re out and about.

Pick a time and place to meet back up

Once you arrive, take a few minutes to make a plan about the time and location that you will all meet back up. This is especially important if you’re going to be somewhere that’s spread out over a large area, like an amusement park, where it’s easy to get separated from one another for hours. Make sure that everyone knows where to meet, and if there’s a map for the place, point out the designated area and mark it so that it’s easy to find the way back to the chosen location.

It can be nerve-wracking experience for parents to let kids off on their own in public places, but it doesn’t have to be. By following these tips, your family can stay safe and enjoy a day out in a crowded public place without worrying.
